Celebration Success
The Hernando 4-H Awards & Recognition Banquet is now a wonderful memory for hundreds. It was a great success thanks to many including Ms. Kim, Ms. Julie, Ms. Jeannette, Mr. Mark, the entire Youth Council and the Extension Faculty/Staff. Our biggest thanks go to Mr. Ahrens and the wonderful members of Brooksville Sr FFA, our fabulous hosts and friends. Many youth, adults and partnerships were recognized this evening. Thank you to Mr. Smith and Mr. Burke for representing Wal*Mart 6828 and Randy and Diane Rickert representing Hernando Sportsman's Club. Over 300 people joined in the celebration and we will be posting pictures very soon. Congratulations to all those who were recognized in some way and we can't wait for the September 1 kickoff to a new and promising year!

Zach Maines of Pony Express 4-H was joined by 4-H leader Dorothy Blair and represented Hernando County at the Regional 4-H Horse Show in South Carolina. What an accomplishment for a first year horse exhibitor!
Kaleidoscope Club members Kayla and Nathan McAndrew earned first place trophies at 4-H Congress State Competitive Events with their illustrated talk, Teen Depression. Lisa Mahler (Kaleidoscope) and Kody Undestad (Bits, Bridles & Beyond) competed in their first State Competitive Events and proudly represented Hernando in Fashion Review and Animal Industry respectively. We couldn't have been prouder of their great accomplishments.
Jolly Ranchers held their first Ho-Down Dinner fundraiser to help members get to the Ag Expo in Georgia this October. Many adult volunteers took the Chaperone Training class and are working on their certification to accompany these youth out of state. Club leader Tammy Fincher served as camp nurse this year and kept all our boo-boos from becoming problems.
Future Cattleman adult volunteers Jeannette Lollie, Kim and Mark Estrada all joined us at camp serving as nursing assistants, class teachers and entertainers. Kim taught papercrafting and Mark is responsible for those three photography classes that resulted in hundreds of documented memories. |

So you want to show livestock at the fair.... |
|
Anyone interested in showing large livestock at the 2011 Hernando County Fair is encouraged to get in touch with 4-H Agent Nancy Moores in early September. The fair is looking for pre-registrations this year and the initial weigh-in dates are slightly different than in year's past. Rules, regulations, schedules and pre-registration forms are set to be released on September 1, 2010. Leaders are asked to gather names, even if they are only "just thinking about it" and get those to the 4-H office. More information coming soon.
